Aug 15: Updates
Hello, and thank you for all the kind words of support. It’s unimaginably tough, but life and the farm continue on.
from Carlos
“Thank you to all for the kind gestures and words passed on through email, Instagram and Amanda and Tay at the market this past weekend. I was glad to take a bit of time before fully returning. I’ll be back at the market this weekend with some family support and would love to see the market community.
We have decided to postpone our community celebration on August 19th and instead spend a few hours boating on the lake together as a family. My dad grew up with a strong connection to water and the ocean, and passed that on to us as kids. For a few years early in my life, we’d go to the beach just about every weekend and sleep in our boat. It’ll be nice to get out on the water and honour him this way.”
We are moving more slowly around the farm, taking time to remember and grieve and rest. Some things aren’t getting done, but we are working to get back to the rhythm of the summer, even at half-pace. Have been busy harvesting, planting and weeding, and we have some great produces coming to the market this week.
We’ve got monster beets for sale this week! Our purple beets got so big, they couldn’t handle their greens. Come check out and find the biggest one you can.
As well, our herb bouquet of the week features one of the most popular herbs: chives! The bouquets are a bit lighter this week, but still fragrant and bright with support from sunny yellow sunchoke flowers, dahlias, anise hyssop and flowering cilantro. Chives are the best “anywhere” herb, giving just that favourite, light onion pizzazz on any savoury dish.
Stay tuned for updates on the community farm celebration for Carlos, we will likely have it on or near the Fall Equinox (September 20th~). Thank you again for being here, for supporting this business and for any of the other kindnesses shown during this time.
