Aug 8: A Goodbye:“Change is the only constant”
We entered August full of grief.
We are devastated to announce that last week Carlos’s dad passed away in his sleep. If you ever shopped at the market or visited the farm, you were likely lucky enough to be acquainted with his calm, joyful presence. He is missed beyond belief.
a note from Carlos
“Dad,
The shock of your death hasn’t fully hit me yet. This past week has been horrendous. And yet, somehow I catch myself thinking about the future: “We can do this idea later” or “We can do that for the Christmas markets”…and then I realize, oops…you won’t be here for those.
You were my best friend and the one person I could speak to about anything, whether it was a large cosmic concept or a minor, insignificant annoyance. Oh, and jokes!! We’d share so many jokes. One of my favourite things to do while we were living together was to send you something funny, and then wait to hear your big belly laugh from the other room! I am grateful to you for so many things. Your support and enthusiasm for my wildest dreams stoked the embers of what is now on the verge of being a fully realized fire. You taught me to see opportunity, especially in failure.
Most importantly, you taught me (or worked on teaching me) about impermanence: Change is the only constant.
So onward I’ll go, changed. Your form has changed, but your energy is with me for life.
I love you. I miss you.”
Thank you for all the words of kindness, love and support over the past week. Carlos is looking forward to having his sister and her family in town soon.
We are planning a celebration on Carlos’s (Senior) birthday, August 19th, at the farm.
If you’re interested in coming to share some memories, food or simply support Carlos and his family, please let us know.
We will be back at the market tomorrow, but Carlos will have friends (& farmhands), Amanda and Tay, running the stand as he is taking time to reflect and grieve.
Talk soon <3
